About Us
Dating from the 16th Century the Queen's Head and Artichoke was once a royal hunting lodge. It appeared in Crew's Survey of 1753 as a ramshackle old tavern. When Regents Park was built several well known inns were demolished, one of which the Queen's Head and Artichoke was moved into Albany Street. It was rebuilt on it's present site in 1811, but the existing building only dates from around
1900.
The licence itself dates from Queen Elizabeth 1. The origin of it's name is attributed to Daniel Clarke, master cook to Elizabeth 1 and James 1 and was run by Queen Bess' head gardener.
The Queen's Head and Artichoke Public House and Restaurant, stands at the bottom of Albany Street just North of Great Portland Street tube station.
